About Coffin Bay National Park

Coffin Bay National Park spans more than 28,000 hectares along the remote southern coastline of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The park features dramatic views of the Great Australian Bight, extensive white sand beaches, limestone cliffs, coastal dunes, and sheltered bays. Its protected marine and terrestrial habitats support diverse flora such as mallee scrub, spinifex grasses, and saltbush, as well as abundant wildlife including kangaroos, emus, and a variety of bird species. The park’s clear waters are rich with marine life, making it a favored spot for fishing and snorkeling. The area holds cultural significance to the local Aboriginal groups, who have long connections to the land and sea. Established in 1982, Coffin Bay National Park is particularly popular for hiking, with a coastal wilderness trail that stretches approximately 54 kilometers, providing an immersive outdoor experience over several days. Visitors also come to explore the park’s quiet beaches, engage in kayaking along sheltered inlets, and camp within secluded campsites that enhance the feeling of remoteness. The park's isolated location means fewer crowds, perfect for those seeking tranquility amid natural beauty. Accessibility requires some planning, as vehicle travel includes unsealed roads and limited facilities. The park’s striking coastal scenery combined with protected natural habitats creates an appealing destination for outdoor recreation, wildlife observation, and landscape photography.
